Energy Saving Materials

Energy Saving Materials

Installing certain energy-saving materials in England, Wales and Scotland qualifies for zero rating for VAT purposes. Qualifying energy saving materials includes the following;

(a) insulation for walls, floors, ceilings, roofs or lofts or for water tanks, pipes or other plumbing fittings; (b)draught stripping for windows and doors; (c)central heating system controls (including thermostatic radiator valves); (d)hot water system controls; (e)solar panels; (f)wind turbines; (g)water turbines; (h)ground source heat pumps; (i)air source heat pumps; (j)micro combined heat and power units; (k)boilers designed to be fuelled solely by wood, straw or similar vegetal matter”.

Due to several elements needing to be undertaken to allow the qualifying works to be installed by the contractor, potentially additional work will also qualify for zero-rating, as long as it is regarded as ancillary to, and an integral part of, the supply and installation of the qualifying energy-saving materials.

So, please feel free to contact our helpline to talk about the VAT liability of your project to see if any elements can qualify for zero-rating, for VAT purposes.
